cannot move iTunes library to external drive iTunes 12.9.5.5 Mojave 10.14.6

I am trying to point my iTunes to an iTunes library on an external HD(named iTunes new 2) which I set up on my old computer which was running High Sierra. New MBP is running iTunes 12.9.5.5,Mojave 10.14.6.

I followed instructions for using iTunes advanced preferences to point iTunes to the new library on the external drive but iTunes keeps showing the almost empty library on my MBP internal drive.

How do I successfully make iTunes use the large library on my external drive/

Pathway is /Volumes/iTunes new 2/iTunes/iTunes media

The iTunes media folder has all my songs, podcasts etc

I would add a screenshot but don't know how to do so in this query.
