Odd behavior with Apple Watch and iPhone

Hey everyone, this morning my wife and I experienced and odd occurrence. Her Apple Watch was prompting her for the password of an Apple ID that was and old email address of mine. The weird thing about this particular email address, other than it not being used for years now, is that there was never an Apple ID associated with it.

She was able to cancel this prompt, but within 30 seconds, the same prompt showed up on her iPhone, which she was also able to cancel. The Apple Watch in question is an Apple Watch 3, and the iPhone is a XS.

Again, it is an old email address that never had an Apple ID associated with it.

Any suggestions?
