MIDI only plays when I trigger pedal!

Helloo,

THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING! I recently bought a 5-pin MIDI cable to connect my Yamaha Clavinova to my Macbook Air, and after installing the driver and doing everything I needed to, it made sound - but only when I up+down the right damper pedal, or manually change the MidiOutChannel on the MIDI interface between each note. I have tried EVERYTHING! Please, do you know what's going on??

No, that is a MIDI interface, the actual interface is in the USB plug. However it's as Erik says, an import that does not work on newer operating systems/computers. (at least that's my guess)

Online Review:

Hi.

I have stuck notes and missing notes when using your cable:

DigitalLife® USB to MIDI In/Out Cable - 5-Pin DIN MIDI Interface to USB

Converter Cable for MIDI Keyboard/Controller to Computer . I am using

MacOS 10.11 MacPro and Digital Performer 9 or Kontakt 5 with a Yamaha

S80. Everything worked fine with the FW-1814 MAudio interface. What can I

do?

From the manufacturer:

Note

1. The MIDI Cable Does not work for USB-C Computer.

2. Strongly suggest to connect the USB plug to the same USB port of your computer.

3. Put the MIDI-USB Cable away from Radios and TVs which may cause the Interference.

Connection Steps

1. Connect the cable marked "In" to "Out" on MIDI keyboard, "Out" to "In" on MIDI keyboard.

2. Plug the USB to computer, LED indicator will show the power on.

3. Open music software program.

4. Set the DAW/Software MIDI IN/OUT device to USB-Audio-Device.

5. USB MIDI Interface is now ready for use.

I am connecting a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-170 to Logic on my Macbook Air.

The Clavinova makes sound regardless, because of it's nature as an electric piano (and turning the actual piano function off makes no difference).

On Logic, I will play one note and then not be able to play any more until the duration of that note is over (it's almost like the pedal polarity has been reversed, so sustain when no pedal is pressed down, and vice versa BUT I can't do anything to change the pedal because it's built in, and there aren't any settings on the piano that cover that). However, I can play another note if I redo the pedal (put it on and off again): and the pedal is counting as a 'controller' on Logic. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with note on/note off but it's all very confusing. I've tested the MIDI using the function that Logic supplies but that is just linked into the tracks in Logic. I've also tried using different software instruments.

And it's not that the keyboard/Logic is in mono because I can play chords, it's just playing them in a sequence (I'll have to wait like five seconds between each unless I press down and release the pedal).

HOWEVER, I worked out that changing the channel on the MidiOutChannel on my piano somehow manages to allow the note to change??

Not sure if any of that made sense, so I posted a 30 second video to help you understand it better lol

Thank you!

Actually, the midi output of the Clavinova should work right away.

• In which way did you connect which Clavinova model to which midi-interface?

• You said, "it made sound". Are you talking about the Clavinova itself or a software instrument? Which software instrument?

• Clarify: "but only when I up+down the right damper pedal, or manually change the MidiOutChannel on the MIDI interface between each note."

• Go to your "Display Mode pop-up menu-> Customize Control Bar AND Display... -> LCD -> enable Midi Activity. Do you see incoming notes when hitting the keyboard or the Clavinova?
