i have one of the 512 MB iPod Shuffle sticks, and every time I connect it to a Mac that has iTunes on it, it just says it needs to be restored. I’ve tried that several times, but even when it does restore properly, it just goes back to that same message. I have the iPod restore tool installed, and it didn’t help. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

I suspect that the shuffle is dead.
I tried using the "ipod reset utility" on a windows vista PC, but, the app just shows a blank window with a blue button. When I clicked on it, the ipod reset properly. Then, when I reset it again from my macbook pro, it kept going into that same loop
