Lightening to USB 3 adapter needs more power?

I recently bought the Lightening to USB 3 adapter as the Internet said it could be used with a lightning cable to provide power so that the "needs more power" message would not be an issue.

I have just tried it on both my mini 5 and my iPad Pro connecting a USB stick and both show that it needs more power, even if power is already plugged in or after the warning shows, whats going on?

I thought this was the accessory that was intended to fix the power problem.

That is exactly what I have and have done, it still doesn't have enough power, hence the question.

Connecting the adapeter to the ipad when the power is already connected to the adapter also doesnt work, I have tried the adapter into the ipad, usb into adapter, then adding power, connecting all together then adding power and all other combinations none work.

With Lightning connector equipt iPads, you need this adapter as it has a power connection to power both the iPad and to connect a commonplace USB flash memory drive or portable SSD drive.

Without the additional power to the iPad, USB flash drives and portable SSD drives will NOT work with older iPads with the Lightning connector.

The Lightning connector alone CANNOT convey the necessary power requirements needed for normal USB style flash memory drives.

There are lots of YouTube videos that discuss and demonstrate this.
