The Apple TV+ app keeps going dark while watching a video (audio keeps playing fine). It happens on and off throughout the videos, very annoying. One minute it’s bright, the next it is almost completely dark (in the same scene). I don’t have auto brightness enabled on my iPhone and this only happens in this app. No problem on Amazon Prime Video app for instance.

Happened to me as well. I found that adjusting the iPad screen brightness using the preferences shortcuts menu instantly brings back the normal colors and brightness to the Apple TV video. Had to do this around 10 times during a single show.
The fix has to come from Apple. We have all been sending feedback here to report the bug:

Please consider doing so as well. I hope others with the problem do the same. The more complaints, the more likely they are to put out an update with a fix.
I discovered that - at least for me- the problem was restricted to when I was on WiFi vs. cellular data. It didn’t happen at all in data mode. That not necessarily a fix however, and is still a big problem if you don’t have an unlimited data plan.
As mentioned above, it’s a glitch that only Apple can fix. Please send them a message as most of us have done. The more complaints the more they’re likely to fix it. Link to send feedback bug report:

I have the same problem, if I turn on and off smart invert from the top right menu it returns back to normal then it happens again.
I also found that playing with the brightness sorts it. Easier fix than flipping back and forward 15s every time it happens, as that drives me crazy.
I used my smart invert colors setup when the screen got dark and I haven’t had a problem since. You can find that option in accessibility.
Yes, The Morning Show was bad for this problem.
I notice that the problem is the worst with an iPhone 11 or 11 Pro. I tried it on an iPhone 8 and on that device it only dims (but still visibly and still annoying) whereas on my iPhone 11 Pro it actually goes near dark. Although it seems there are other devices with the same problem.
To everyone who is taking various steps to get out of the dark spots, I don’t think it’s necessary. I don’t do anything and it becomes bright again on its own (then goes dark again at intervals unfortunately ). I don’t think doing anything speeds it up. Unless some of you get stuck in the dark spot and it doesn’t brighten again?
Sure hope Apple fixes this soon.

Thanks for the link. I sent off the report to Apple. Hopefully others will as well. Not that Apple is very quick to fix bugs. I have the app free for a year. If the problem continues, I certainly won’t be renewing it. Plenty of other apps that work and most with more features.

me. I sent in a complaint to the link provided. Thank you for this forum, I thought something was wrong with what I was doing. I have a new iPhone pro and I’m just getting used to it. But this is garbage. I won’t renew tv either if they don’t fix it. Grrrrrr
Interesting. Maybe with slower connections? Still, a glitch that needs to be fixed. My cell data is semi-unlimited. It goes to a slower speed after my initial data runs out. Free but slow. The slow data connection might trigger the problem as well.
i am watching The Morning Show on my iPad Pro and this exact thing keeps happening from me. It keeps going dark and then I have to adjust the brightness and it works again and then keeps happening on and off.
This is constantly happening to me as well iphone 11 all updated screen keeps going dark no screen saver or auto lock future enabled. Very frustrating
