iPhone 8 Plus scrolling to top

When I’m scrolling down reading or viewing something, the scroll automatically jumps to top of page And it keeps doing that in middle of my reading something which is so annoying. How do I fix this?

Hey there Mom3602,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I’ll be happy to help with your iPhone jumping back to the top of the page or app you were viewing.

Is this happening in multiple apps or just certain ones? If this is happening with multiple apps, see if this is related to the display being sensitive. Take a look at the steps in this article for info on how to do this and more:

Get help with the display on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If this is happening with just certain apps, force close the app and restart your iPhone:

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Check for updates to your iPhone and the app. These links can guide you on updating your iPhone:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Then update the apps with the steps here:

Update apps or use automatic downloads

Remove and reinstall the app if the issue continues after that.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Mom3602,

If this is happening with just certain third party apps, this may be expected behavior of the app itself and you may want to reach out to the app developer or documentation to verify:

How to contact an app developer

If they say it's unexpected, back up your iPhone and reinstall iOS using the steps from these links:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue continues after that, restore your iPhone to factory settings and test it in this condition. This link will guide you on this:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If the issue doesn't occur in factory condition, restore your backup and test once more:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If the issue continues in the factory state, use the following link to reach out to Apple Support so they can look further into this with you:

Cheers.

I believe this is the result of a new feature (ahem) that adds a vertical scroll bar on the right of the screen in iOS 13. Those of us who are right-handed and use the right side of the touchscreen to scroll down as we’re reading are finding that apps will appear to behave unpredictably sometimes, scrolling up and down erratically. I believe the issue occurs when the scroll bar slider happens to be on the page at the same place where you are using the touchscreen to navigate. I’d love to have a way to disable the right scroll bar or move it to the left side of the screen. Until this happens, I think our best bet is to navigate down pages by swiping closer to the center of the touchscreen. This doesn’t seem super helpful, since scrolling toward the center obscures the view of whatever you’re reading. If anyone has come up with another workaround, please share!

I agree! There are a ton of people complaining on the forums about their screen flipping around unpredictably since iOS 13 was released, and I’m sure this is where all that is coming from. If the developers consider this a serious feature, they should make it so left-handers can use it too by giving users the option to move it to the other side of the screen (which would make it a nonissue for us right-handers who hate it). I sure hope they do a better job testing out the next cross-app “improvement”!
