4K stream from iTunes Library

Hi everyone !

First of all, excuse me for my English if I do some mistakes, I'm french ^^'

So my problem is : I have a 4K file in my iTunes Library (2160p x265). I want to read it via my Apple TV 4K but when I go on the "Computer" app of the Apple TV I can see my movies and TV shows that are in 1080p but not the 4K one. I though it was because I'm still on an iMac 2011 with High Sierra.

So I tried with my MBP with Catalina. With the App TV I can read the 4K file but it still does not appear on the Apple TV.

So, my file has a problem or it's simply impossible for the Apple TV to read a 4K from the iMac ?

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 13

Likely an issue with the encode, there are specific parameters (see below) that need to be met for it to play on Apple TV. You could also bring into something like Handbrake, and use a preset for Apple TV 4K

  • H.264/HEVC SDR video up to 2160p, 60 fps, Main/Main 10 profile
  • HEVC Dolby Vision (Profile 5)/HDR10 (Main 10 profile) up to 2160p
  • H.264 Baseline Profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
  • MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 fps, Simple profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Thank you for reply :)

That's my file nfo. I don't really understand what's wrong because comparing to the ATV4K specific parameters, my files seems to be in the good parameters. Or it's only possible to stream SDR and not HDR from the iTunes Library ?
