I can't open external drives on two connected mbpros now on Catalina

I have two macbook pros I use one as a server to connect hard drives and the other I can use anywhere in the house or garden. Or I did until Catalina which is on both machines. Now I can see drives connected to the ‘server’ but they won’t open on the network. Error message says the item is not available.

Can't connect to mounted USB drives over network after Catalina upgrade I recently upgraded my iMac to Catalina from Mojave. When I try to connect to any mounted USB drives from my MBP (el Capitan) over my network, I get an error "The operation can't be completed because the original item >drive name< can't be found.", despite the USB drives being listed as being there: I booted the iMac into a backupdrive of it's previous Mojave system, and there's no issues...everything works fine with it, so it's something with Catalina. AFP sharing IS turned off on the iMac (Catalina) but it has been on in this process. The error seems like a location cache problem on the MBP (El Capitan), but I can't find a way to clear that info, if that's what it is (restrarting hasn't fixed it). Any help would be appreciated.

cannot connect to home LAN external drive I upgraded to Catalina on two home computers... my laptop and a Mac mini in another room. Previously, I could access files on the mini's external USB drive. Now I cannot. The error is "This operation can't be completed because the original item for 'OWC-Storage' can't be found." I can see the volume if I go via "Connect to Server" or try to connect from the Finder window sidebar. Once I chose the volume, I get the error. I haven't change File Sharing or anything. It worked fine in High Sierra. Please advise. I'm open to suggestions.

networked Hard Drives won't connect I can't connect to other Mac drives on my network, keep getting "The operation can’t be completed because the original item for [whatever drive I've sleceted] can’t be found."
