Drag photo to browser reduces resolution

How can I drag a photo to a website (in Chrome) for upload without ending up with a low quality version?

My export preferences are not being respected, it always downsizes to ~1000px.

Holding down the option key while dragging doesn't do anything (I read that tip somewhere)

It seems crazy that I would have to drag the photo to the desktop first, then drag from desktop to the browser to get a version at the original size!?!?

Everything Apple does encourages you to use their Photos app to organize photos, but then you can't actually get at the full resolution photos without exporting them?

Also, drag to Photos to Messages stopped working, but that is a separate issue

When you drag you don't get your original image, you get the preview - a good-for-most- things version of the image. It saves you having to export each time. But if that version is not good enough for your purposes then use the File -> Export command. There are a lot more options there.

Photos is a freebie app that Apple give away. It's not meant to be the final word on photo management. Basically you get what you pay for. It's not compulsory to use Photos. There are alternatives that might suit your situation better.
