Local firewall blocking FTP - unable to upload dreamweaver files via ftp

A few weeks ago I was able to access my remote server and upload files. I'm no longer able to do so. I get a message:

Cannot make connection to host. Not authorised to make the connection due to local firewall blocking FTP data.

I have contacted my service provider and they say that everything is fine their end so it appears to be an issue with my Mac which is using Catalina v10.15.2

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.13

The firewall on your Mac is off by default so did you turn it on? Are you trying to use a VPN or proxy configuration? Are you running ant third party apps that claim to protect? Are you sure that the message about a local firewall is not referring to the FTP server's firewall?
