iPhone: Scratching sound with bluetooth speaker

Hello community

I recently bought an UE Boom 2 bluetooth speaker. When i try to play music now using my iPhone 6 it works but the music quality is quite bad. There is a scratching sound in the low range sounds.

Playing music using other phones, my iPad or my MacBook works perfectly. Also connecting the iPhone 6 via AUX cable to the speaker works fine.

I restarted the iPhone, resetted the network settings, deleted the speaker in the list of the known bluetooth devices in the settings and connected again. Nothing helped.

Do you think, it is a hardware problem in the iPhone? Should I replace the bluetooth antenna?

Cheers

Hello everybody,

I found the solution! It's that simple that I almost feel embarrassed about it. The equalizer on spotify caused the problem. I didn'n know it was still activated... Anyways, the moment I switched it off the scratching disappeared.

Thanks to everybody who tried to help me!

Greetings FancyFranz,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! I understand you're noticing poor audio quality while playing music via Bluetooth from your iPhone to a speaker.

I suggest testing after removing a case that may be on your iPhone, ensuring your device has the latest version of iOS, and checking for interference that might be causing the behavior: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support & Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference - Apple Support

Additionally, test after disabling Wi-Fi from Settings. Also, turn Bluetooth off and back on from Settings: Use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in Control Center - Apple Support

"If you want to completely disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for all networks and devices, follow these steps:

  • To turn off Wi-Fi, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
  • To turn off Bluetooth, go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth."

If the issue persists, test after factory resetting your speaker, and checking for any firmware updates that may be available for the device.

Cheers.

Hello Becky,

thanks for your reply! As suggested by you I

  • removed the iPhone case
  • checked the phone for updates (latest iOS was already installed)
  • switched on and off bluetooth in the settings
  • switched off wifi in the settings
  • made sure, the bluetooth signal isn't disturbed by other divices or physical barriers
  • resetted the speaker
  • updated the firmware of the speaker

Unfortunately the problem persists... Do you have any other idea?

Greetings

Hi MoonJ,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I don't get support for my old iPhone anymore. Today I went to a workshop and they also couldn't help me. A friend of mine who is repairing iPhones told me that it might be an software issue since I was able to connect the phone to the speaker, so the bluetooth antenna should be fine.

So I think I will just wait and hope that the next software update fixes the problem...

Regards

Franz
