The built in protection works very well. I have never used anything else. See: macOS - Security - Apple


But Malwarebytes has a very good reputation: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/

Malwarebytes:

All I would recommend is Malwarebytes for Mac. This is developed by long-time users of these forums. It is a very reliable program for Apple.

  2. Malwarebytes Uninstaller

As for Security Software:

As for security software, keep it all of your Mac. It will just get in the way of Apple site usage. Often, people get logged out of these sites for no more than VPN usage. And I've never had any virus issue on my Macs.


I will say that if you were to use a Virtual Machine(VM) (Windows-in-a-window), then using A/V software would be wise in that case on the VM itself.
