How to copy .aiff files from a CD to my Mac

I used to do a radio show which I assembled on my Mac, burned to a CD, and then mailed to the radio station. In those days, I could just drag a file from the CD to my Mac (they were .wav files then). I tried to do that in Catalina, but the copy does not proceed even if I try to use cp from a terminal window. (Perhaps there's an argument I can add in cp to force it to proceed?) I don't have any problem copying .mp3 files, but I'd like to be able to play some higher resolution .aiff files from my Mac without having to load the CD. Is there a way to do that now?

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.15
