I've been using this MacBook for about 4 years now and it's only been acting like this today. I've reset the SMC multiple times an it's still the same. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

Sounds like you may have a defective or worn out battery. You can check the battery status by Option-clicking on the battery icon on the menubar. Any condition except "Normal" or "Good" means the battery should be replaced.
You can also try running the Apple Diagnostics.

I didn't realise I had to check the battery icon! It does say "Replace Now". I'll continue using my laptop with the charger in, in the mean time before getting a new computer. I don't think I will go Apple again for laptops or computers. Thank you very much!
Yes sir/ma'am. It seems to be the case. I'll try just hope it doesn't completely die on me in the mean time while getting a replacement.
What is the condition of the battery?
From the batt icon in the upper right menu bar, click open holding the option key.
Anything but Condition = Normal needs to be replaced.
