skin irratations and itchy ears from powerbeats pro wireless

Recently purchased power beats pro wireless and from the moment I started using them.I noticed itching in my inner ear, and where the hooks sit on the top of your ear.My right ear also has some drainage from the inner ear. How many others have this same experience.I’ve read on other websites that quite a few people are also experiencing the same problem and if Apple is going to back there product?

I had exactly the same issue. Although to took a while to develop. Probably 2-3 months of regular use. Now if I wear for 30 mins I get the symptoms and have to avoid using for a week for them to clear up.

i solved this by replacing the tips with those from a 3rd party. I found a company called Comply who make replacement tips for many different headphones. I think the main selling point is they are made from a special foam that gives great sound benefits as well as comfort. I ordered a set, I am in the UK so they took a few weeks to arrive. I have to say I have been impressed. They take a while to get used to. However I have had no reaction, so I am back using my Powerbeats pro without issue.

Plastics are the go to for people with sensitivities. Airpods are ABS. Butadiene's are used in medical settings often due to the low instance of reaction.

Be sure to tell your "Irish journalist friend" how things work out. You know, since you don't want anything out of this. Did you bother to research how many people have this exact same problem with other earbuds going on twenty years? I'm sure that reporter did.

All I know is that I get a bad skin reaction (sensitivity or allergic

reaction or whatever you want to call it) to the PBPs and I want Apple

to produce another version of them that won't do that to my skin because

they are a great design and something I have been looking for for years

because all rest I have tried for the last 10 years at least just

fall out of my ears. Make them out of plain plastic or ABS or butdiene

or whatever it takes. Just get it done. How hard can that be?

I think that’s an excellent idea, and just the sort of pressure Apple needs to get this issue resolved more quickly and transparently. If everyone with our problem who had bought their PBPs from a retailer like Sportchek were to get those retailers to let Apple know they’re not pleased, that would help us. Actually I also bought mine from a retailer in Toronto so I’ll get in touch with them.

I have just contacted Apple on this matter on September 7, 2020. I had to have pictures of my ears taken and had to answer 30 Apple questions. I am supposed to have some kind of response by September 9. I won’t hold my breath. I too had my doctor look at my ears. I would think that as long as this has been going on that they would be looking into a hyper allergenic tip. On Reddit someone was speaking about a class action lawsuit. All I want is a replacement rubber tip. If I have to put up with this much longer I might want to get into a class action lawsuit.

3 weeks ago, after calling and calling for a month and half, I still have yet to receive a refund for my Pro Beats. I’ve sent out and returned them to Apple. They expedited the FedEx return label ASAP and now I’m still without payment and without wireless ear buds. Both my ears were infected, inside and out. Had a fever and treated topically with antibiotics

My father bought Powerbeats wireless headphones and after a few months started to get itchy ears both inside and where it hooked over his ears. They ended up looking like small burn marks and caused an infection in his ear. The doctors prescribed medication which didn’t clear the issue even after two types of antibiotics used. With the COVID restrictions in place they wouldn’t see him in person and ended up having to pay for a private medical appointment to see a doctor only to find out he now has a perforated eardrum and is now deaf in one ear.

Why Apple haven’t issued any warning regarding these products is beyond me. I wouldn’t ever recommend using them.

What I don’t understand is that if you are having this many consumers with the same issue that love the product, but have issues with the silicone tip why don’t they correct it. I explained to them that I don’t want a replacement. I want a tip that is allergy free. I have had Motorola silicone tips that I did not have an allergic reaction too. There is something in the silicone tip. You would think that Apple would be eager to get this fixed. I guess they are not.

Ugh!! I absolutely luv these Powerbeats sport and crushed cuz after each online zoom class of wearing them for 3 hours, I wake up with my ears itching and oozing. I’ve never had ear dermatitis, but since purchasing these last year, it’s been non-stop. I get it behind my ears where the hook is too, but it’s worse at the opening of the ears. I googled to see if anyone else is having that trouble. Yup!

Went in to JB Hi-Fi. Spoke to the manager. He wouldn’t issue a refund straight up and he too contacted Apple. Long story short; manager needs to contact his head office to discuss my request for a refund. Given today is a public holiday, he advised he will try calling them tomorrow and get back to me. I left him with the headphones, advising I don’t want them and will not be putting them anywhere near my ears again.

I am really disappointed about this whole situation. I really like the headphones, but In the absence of any acknowledgement by Apple that there is a problem, I cannot trust this product. The irritation they caused was/is of significant concern. I cannot see how Apple can continue to sell this product 🤷‍♂️

I’ve had exactly the same symptoms described by everyone else in this thread and it took me a long time to make the connection. Every time I use them my ear canals start to itch and eventually I get the same watery discharge and crusty build up others here have reported. I currently can’t hear anything at all out of one ear.

I’m not sure how widespread this kind of reaction is but clearly it’s affecting a number of people. Apple really needs to look into this.
