skin irratations and itchy ears from powerbeats pro wireless

Recently purchased power beats pro wireless and from the moment I started using them.I noticed itching in my inner ear, and where the hooks sit on the top of your ear.My right ear also has some drainage from the inner ear. How many others have this same experience.I’ve read on other websites that quite a few people are also experiencing the same problem and if Apple is going to back there product?

Met0012, I bought some Comply foam ear tips. The ones I got were the Comfort 400 assorted sizes pack.

They worked fine, but unfortunately I didn't get to give them a really good tryout along with my whole ear covers — yup, I'm the "genius" :) — before I had to send the PBPs back to Apple. If the only reaction you get from the PBPs is inside your ear canals, then maybe different ear tips like the ones from Comply will solve the problem for you. For me the skin reaction was everywhere the PBPs touched my skin, so that's why I decided to try the now-defunct covers idea. Oh well... There are, of course, wireless earphones with ear hooks made by other manufacturers and I might give some of them a try, but again, what I really want is some PBPs that don't drive my ears crazy!

Now it’s not just the Powerbeats. They are using the same silicone material in the iPods Pro and people are reacting to that as well. I talked to two people on my last flight that are having the same problem. Apple needs to step up and fix this and do a mass recall. Of course they won’t since they don’t really care about the public and only their bottom line.

My ears have been bothering me for months, oozing, cracked skin and alot of crustiness. Went to the doctor three times. After the third time I stopped wearing the PowerBeats for several weeks and my ears cleared up. I wore them again for the first time yesterday for about an hour. By evening, my ears were oozing again. Something definitely wrong with this material.

I’ve had exactly the same symptoms described by everyone else in this thread and it took me a long time to make the connection. Every time I use them my ear canals start to itch and eventually I get the same watery discharge and crusty build up others here have reported. I currently can’t hear anything at all out of one ear.

I’m not sure how widespread this kind of reaction is but clearly it’s affecting a number of people. Apple really needs to look into this.

I am having the same issues. I used them for months with no issues but then started getting itchy ears and drainage. Problems quickly escalated to SEVERE drainage and then bleeding. It was so bad I had to go to urgent care. Didn’t wear them for months but tried one more time just to be sure they were indeed the problem. Sure enough, itching and drainage came back after wearing for about 30 minutes. Took more than a week before ears felt normal again.

Urgent care visit costed me more than the pbp! I think there is a severe problem with the materials. The fact that I wore them for months with no issues makes me think more and more people will have issues over time.

Apple really should take this issue more seriously.

My wife got a new set of iPod Pro with the same dangerous silicone tips. Two days wearing and her ears are draining, red, itchy, and crusty. It’s now a disgrace that Apple knows the product is defective and does nothing to correct it with hypoallergenic materials. I’m done with ALL apple products.

I have been having the same issue with Airpod Pro's. Had it for 8 months now but just started having the issue a few months back. Got replacement's when mine stopped working but it still was giving me this issue after a hour or so listening with them. I just bought the memory foam ear tips to see if that helps at all, and I hope it does because I enjoy the sound they give me when I do wear them.

Glad i found this thread - thought i was going mad.

I started having this problem after several months of using PBP. The problem they cause with my ears is so bad, i've had to purchase different earphones. All the symptoms are exactly the same. Itchy inner ears with a clear discharge, scaling on the back of my ears - awful. Unwearable. I'm surprised there isn't a Class Action in the US?

I tried the Bose QC earbuds and had the same reaction the first time I used them so the issue isn't unique to PBP. I was surprised that the ear tips are made of silicone and causing issues. I expect this if one has a latex allergy and the contact points were made of latex. Maybe the manufacturers can try a soft nylon material?

I ended up buying a wireless headset with over ear cups that were made out of a different material. They sound good, but can't really exercise with them because of the bulk.
