skin irratations and itchy ears from powerbeats pro wireless

Recently purchased power beats pro wireless and from the moment I started using them.I noticed itching in my inner ear, and where the hooks sit on the top of your ear.My right ear also has some drainage from the inner ear. How many others have this same experience.I’ve read on other websites that quite a few people are also experiencing the same problem and if Apple is going to back there product?

Met0012, I bought some Comply foam ear tips. The ones I got were the Comfort 400 assorted sizes pack.

They worked fine, but unfortunately I didn't get to give them a really good tryout along with my whole ear covers — yup, I'm the "genius" :) — before I had to send the PBPs back to Apple. If the only reaction you get from the PBPs is inside your ear canals, then maybe different ear tips like the ones from Comply will solve the problem for you. For me the skin reaction was everywhere the PBPs touched my skin, so that's why I decided to try the now-defunct covers idea. Oh well... There are, of course, wireless earphones with ear hooks made by other manufacturers and I might give some of them a try, but again, what I really want is some PBPs that don't drive my ears crazy!

Great question...... I am concerned that it appears Apple have not made an attempt to ameliorate this problem. The impact is worse the second time as evident by taking longer to heal than the initial experience. Initial experience took approximately 2 weeks to heal, I wish I knew the initial time that the earbuds were the antecedent. Meanwhile, 2nd time it has taken nearly a month and still experiencing dryness in my ear - helix, antihelix and concha.  I will be going to a Apple store in the area and hope they provide a refund at least. I still have the receipt and box.

I have had the same problem. Pus inside and and outside both ears. Liquid dripping all over the back of my ears too… Crusty ears inside it out… Rash continual itching. Both sides of my face where my ears are have dark shapes virtually identical to where the BEATS sit behind and over my ears. I didn’t believe that the beats were causing it and my doctor didn’t even consider it… I am also an antibiotics to try to clear it up. Needless to say, I am no longer wearing the Powerbeats pro. And also I agree with the previous comments on this post I haven’t had any other problems with any wireless air buds before.

Ive had the same issues since December and they actually caused 2 perforated eardrums and hearing loss in one ear. My ears are still draining fluid. I sent the Beats to be investigated and now they don't want to pay for any of the medical bills , or hearing aid I know need. I requested to have my Beats sent back and they are saying they can't send them back or tell me the issue. They have basically stolen my property without me signing anything over to them. Any suggestions on what options I have left would be appreciated.

I assume the prospect of having to pay your hearing aid costs has got Apple's attention. kfrans612 mentioned "LegalAdvice" but I'm no legal beagle so I can't suggest anything along those lines. One thing I think you should do, however, is to get something in writing from Apple about why they won't honour your request to send your PBPs back to you. (By the way, are they going to send you a refund?) I'm afraid I don't have any other suggestions about what to do next other than staying in touch with the Apple supervisor you've been dealing with and keep pushing for a resolution of your situation. I wish you the best of luck with it, and I hope Apple will be taking the situation more seriously now and will make research into the cause of the problem a much higher priority.

Wow! I did not know so many others were experiencing this problem. This was going on with me since last year. I truly did not really think it was the Power Beats Pro until the puss returned again but worse and the irritation made my ears crusty and hearing difficult at times. A second visit by the doctor up my dosages and I had to use 3 medications instead of two. The area around my ears matches the PBP. Also note that I only wore these for no more than an hour and every other day or so. Yet the dark disfiguring marks around my ears got worse. I had no idea that I was marked.

It’s also in my ears. Both are identical.

I wore the beats pro for about 2 months before my reaction came. This cream (Triamcinolone acetonide cream USP, 0.1%) stopped the leakage around my ears, but it still took about a week to heal. I healed up for a good two weeks then tried them again, after completely disinfecting the buds, and immediately the leakage began again after about an hr of use. I guess they are now useless to me, unfortunate because they were an amazing device.

an update. After a month my ears finally healed up. So I bought a new pair of Black powerbeats pro from Amazon thinking it was maybe the dye to make them white. I tried them but I replaced the tips with a leftover pair from my old 2019 Navy powerbeats pro. I wore the left headphones for about 40 minutes while jogging. At first I had no reaction, after about 5 hrs behind my ear became all hot and blistered. Only saving grace is that because I used tips from 2019 Navy powerbeats pro I did not get any reaction to inside my ears. Its obvious to me that something has changed in apple's manufacturing process from 2019 to 2020. I never never had any reactions to the 2019 Navy powerbeats pro. My wife also has a green pair from 2019, with no issues.

No more powerbeats for me. I am going with the generic airpods for 20 dollars from amazon that cause no issues and function as well as apples

I also bought my Beats Pro Earbuds last summer. They did not irritate my ears at all for nearly a year during intense heavy exercise. They were great. A couple months ago they started causing severe itching inside my ear and across the top of my outer ear. My ears felt as if they were burned. Yesterday I tried wearing them for 30 minutes inside air conditioned room with no physical activity or sweating. I had not worn them in weeks and ears were fully healed. With only 30minutes they are now feeling burned and itching lick crazy. Oh well very disappointed.

To funny and I must admit I totally agree with you too. Today I decided to call Apple Support to get the Beats replaced. My wife said here come the run around since I have been on the phone for 2 hours with 3 different people. So Apple, its clear you are not honoring your side of the deal, which is to put out products that don't hurt your customers. The time has come for you to do something about this, period of us as your customers will and I'll lead the charge. It was funny for me today too when the rep said could you send us pics of the issue, sure let me put them on so I damage my ears more, not! There already know the issue, so let's get on with them...

This descriptions mirrors my recent experience very closely. I have clear fluid drainage from both ears. More from the right. And as shown in some of the photos, this becomes "crusty" overnight. I've had PBP since February, and started heavier use "in the time of Covid". I stopped using PBP about 10 days ago. The itching and drainage stopped. Yesterday, I used them for about 40 minutes on a Zoom call. Both drainage and itching were present by the end of the call. The drainage from my right ear became "crusty" overnight. A Google search turned up this post. It looks like Apple is well aware of the problem. As a long time Apple customer (my first product was an Apple Lisa in the early 80's) I hope they will find a fix. In the meantime, maybe some of the tips that came with other vendors' products [I have tried several] may fit, work, and not cause irritation like this. I'll post again here if I find something. And, will probably use AirPods in the meantime.
