AirPods Pro clicking sound.

A few weeks ago the latest firmware update for the AirPods Pro released(2C54). Following this update, my right AirPod developed a clicking sound whenever ANC/Transparency mode was active. Whenever the AirPod is touched slightly by moving my head or touching it, you can hear a clicking/rattling sound. When both modes are off, the sound is not present. This leads me to believe the problem is not a hardware problem as nothing is physically damaged. The mic on the outside of the AirPods has a problem however. Today my left AirPod has also started producing this clicking/rattling sound whenever touched. I just want some answers/help. Thank you.

Hello Paula, I'm hoping to get my new left Airpod Pro on Monday. You say your new left one is working fine. Can you tell us what Firmware is currently on your AirPods Pro? Settings - General - About and then the AirPods Pro. The case has to be open to see the AirPods Pro tab. I currently have the new Firmware 2D15 and am concerned when I put the new left one into the case the right one is going to update the left one. This is what the Apple Tech told me would happen. Not sure I want it to update to the new firmware.

Mine are 2D15. Not a problem so far. Notably, when I did the ear fit test the new left one was good but the old right one said bad fit. Which wasn’t right because it was fine when I first got it with the same rubber tip. Maybe the old one has just worn in a little and is no longer such a good fit. Anyway, the difference is very slight and not noticeable. So far no static clicking.

New firmware, same issues. Maybe more, because this morning I’ve found that the right earphone went at 33% of charge after a 20 minutes call, the left one at 90%... now I’m charging back both, but this is really strange. Metallic click seems to be worsened, it happens more times than before. This morning I’ve changed the tips with the small ones in the apple box, I don’t know if this can affect the sound (sound test ok)

Can you believe this? I just updated it to 2D15 frimware ad the clicking sound is now more than eveeer! Even when noise cancellation is off!!

Can't I undo the update? :((

God what is this with Apple's airpods going broke? I had the airpods 2 and it broke in it's own special way. Right ear not pairing anymore and no solution fixed it.

How the best company in the world is doing this?! Or is it just a psychological trick to get us obsessed with apple?

Hello, I recently started having the same issue at the end of June and into July. It’s a steady Click, Click, Click noise like a clock when I don’t move and a lot of clicking when I do. It’s only in the Right EarPod the Left is perfect. I really loved these things and I hope they can fix whatever the issue is soon. They are almost brand new.

I have the same problem. My right AirPod started making rattling sounds and gets worse when touched or when I go for a run. AirPods are completely unusable to me since I can't focus on what people are saying and interrupts music badly, especially if bass is stronger.

As I'm writing this on my MBP, I am making typos, since my keys get stuck.

In last 365 days

  • brand new iPhone 11Pro just stopped working for me
  • iPhone X, 13 months old stopped working 3 days later
  • I worked at Google where 2 (TWO) of my brand new MBP's stopped working because of the very well known battery issue
  • rattling AirPods for crying out loud

All of these products were replaced except for iPhone X which was outside the warranty.

And now, my AirPods are rattling, reminding me that the time of amazing Apple products is probably gone.

As much as I would like to love them, rattling sound + decreased efficiency in transparent mode which is the main feature, make them a poorly executed product and at what price.

This is third time send my airpods pro for repair and the sound problem on airpods pro time to time it will come out and there is no commitment after talking to apple support. and once over the warranty it will be on our end's responsibility. I am not happy with this kind of product that causing user spend time to repair and still not provide any reasonable solution.

Omg I'm dealing with the same issue! Plus, I don't wanna spend another $89 trying to replace it when I took well care of my AirPods only for it to have crackling noises on ANC and Transparency mode. I tried reseting it and did whatever I was told to do, still nothing solved the issue. It's also funny to me how so many people are experiencing the SAME issue. Please fix this issue.

I’m having the exact same issue, started about 2 days ago. Had my AirPods for a long time with no other problems.

clicking noise in the right ear whenever I move my head or jaw, and even worse when I touch it. It won’t pass the tip fit test with any size of the silicone pieces anymore either.

Only happens in transparency and noise cancellation modes. Still works with them off.
