Upgraded to High Sierra - hdmi connected but just see the High Sierra mountain on TV

Hi,

just upgraded fro El Capitan to High Sierra (I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro) - which I connect to my TV via HDMI all I get is the High Sierra mountain screen - nothing else, except the sound from the film I'm playing on VLC. None of the posts on this HDMI/High Sierra question mention just seeing the Mountain screen. Any help most appreciated - because I don't want to reinstall El Capitan if I can avoid it.

MacBook Pro 13", OS X 10.11

Open System Preferences> Displays make sure Show mirroring options in the menubar when possible is checked.

Also set up your arrangement options under Arrangement.

At the moment it seems as if your mirroring options are set to Use As Separate Display (click on the Displays icon in the menubar), if you want to see the same image on both displays then set your mirroring options to mirror your macs display.

Hello Brendan,

Use a keyboard shortcut Command+Fn+1 to toggle display mirroring on and off.

what happens when you move your cursor to the edge of the screen

does it show up on the tv?

if so then you can just drag vlc manually to it and maximize it there

Did what you said Eau and when I clicked on arrangement and then show mirroring suddenly all was well! Many thanks to yourself and everyone - a great forum!

Sadly tried it, still the same old colourful mountain - As the HS screen is on my tv obviously the hdmi cable is connecting the macbook to the TV - but what's actually happening on my macbook isn't getting through. As I wrote before I've not seen this particularly problem anywhere - it's usually that there's nothing whatsoever on the TV screen. There's no cursor either.
