Safari autofill quit working - wants to show my library card as a credit card

This started with one library card and went to another library card. The password list does not show up when I click in the window anymore but wants to go to the credit card list. It WAS working fine for a long time and now it's not. So I was having to put the long number and password in every time. I did try a bunch of editing the Safari password section but no joy.

NOT elegant, but this works.

A temp SOLUTION is this. Go to system preferences > keyboard > text and make a shortcut. You click the + sign, put whatever into the Replace window - say Brr - and in the With window the card number like 1234 5678 9101 and save. Now when you put Brr into the library card number window, it will unfold to

1234 5678 9101- Hopefully Apple will fix this. Anytime something works for a good while and suddenly does NOT work - no new software or any changes - it's not your fault, it is some squirrelly apple business.

BTW - this is what I finally found on a search, on the San Diego library page:

"** There is a technical issue with the latest version of Safari that is preventing library card numbers and PINs from being saved in the browser. Safari either does not offer the option to save the information, or attempts to insert a credit card number into the Library Card Number field. Please try accessing your account with a different browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox) if you wish to have your library card number and PIN saved in the browser."

yes - I tried checking the credit card list - not there and then I tried putting it there and no joy - It wants to put the card number into the password window instead of the card number window and it STILL references the credit card list for the PIN number. References it whether it is in that credit card list or not. Autofill user names and passwords is checked. I did close the wifi off on an iPad mini so I could get a look at the original setup (using cloud keychain) and it showed a perfect setup. Same setup on all devices. NO changes.

Did you see the note from the San Diego library? This is a known problem and BESIDES - when something works very well for a long time and you've not changed anything... well, does that not smell like apple to you?

BTW - doing the same on the iPhone
