the screen goes black during the calls

My iPhone X screen goes black during a call and the only way to wake it up is to start shutting off the phone, which ends the call. Is there a fix for this?

The iPhone is designed to have the screen blackout while you are on the phone to prevent you from errantly pushing any buttons with the side of your face. When you bring the iPhone down from your face, the screen should light up again. If you are on speaker phone, the screen should dim some, but not go completely black. To wake it up, you should just need to tap on the screen. If that is not the behavior that you are seeing, please describe the problem, as it could be something linked to the proximity sensor.
