Why won’t the “find iPhone” let me mute the right or left AirPod?

I've recently lost my LEFT AirPod and I can’t find it. I fell asleep watching Netflix last night with BOTH AirPods in my ears. When I woke up, I only found the right AirPod but not the left one. I’ve tried to use Find iPhone to help, but I will not let me Mute the right AirPod OR the left AirPod. Please help.

iPhone 6, iOS 12

Hello Slickgurl6,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I understand you can't mute either of your AirPods when trying to locate them. I'm happy to assist you with this.

This could indicate that the battery is discharged or the AirPods are offline. Put the AirPod that you currently have in the case and close the lid. Refresh the Find My page and try locating the second AirPod again. Review this article for additional details:

If your AirPods are lost

Best Regards.
