Remote disc viewing on MacOS Catalina 10.15

Why can't I access a remote disc that has been shared from an old iMac that has a built-in super drive. Why would Apple take this feature away. Supposedly this feature was only available until MacOS 10.15???

Are there any substitute suggestions?

I need to load cd-based software that will not operate on my late 2011 MacBook Pro’s OS into the family 2012 model—and this computer’s optical drive does not operate. remote disc I have a 27" iMac running High Siera. I have a "remote disc" save and carry various files. In finder under "remote disc" the remote disc name(s) come and go. The disc name is listed and gives acces to the files contained on the remote. This does not always show. Why or what am I doing to cause this not to show.

Buy an external drive. They're about $30.
