Why do I keep getting a request to sign in to Apple ID that has never been associated with my watch or iPhone

I own an iPhone XS and an Apple Watch 4 and I keep getting a request to sign in to my husband’s old Apple ID. It Is not mine and has never been associated with either of my devices and is not even his current Apple ID.

It bounces between showing on the watch or on my phone and if I cancel it on either of them it pops up on the other.

It is a perpetual loop that happens for a day then not for a couple of days and it’s driving me nuts, how do I fix this?

Undoubtedly some items on the iPhone (e.g., music, apps, books) belong to his old Apple ID.

One way to get rid of this would be to thoroughly cleanse the iPhone as follows, then repopulate the iPhone being absolutely certain your Apple ID owns all items on the iPhone, and no other items formerly there are present.
