Disappearing Desktop icons after wake

Every time my 2018 Macbook Pro's lid is shut, when I open it back up the desktop icons and folders are gone. Everyday I have to go into time machine and retrieve them. I am running Catalina.

I have started it in safe mode and the icons and folders are still missing. I know they are there but hidden because when I pull the copies from time machine it ask if I want to replace them.

Disk utility did not find any errors, and I turned off all the login items to no avail.

Hello, bluedogmoon.

From what I've read is that you have files disappearing from the desktop whenever your awake the MacBook from sleep. You've done some great troubleshooting steps so far and I'd like to add a few additional steps to help you with this.

Here are some steps to take, try seeing if the issue occurs after each one:

Reset SMC & NVRAM:

How to reset the SMC of your Mac

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

See if the same thing occurs with a test user account:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Then try resetting the folder permissions:

Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder

Keep me updated.

Cheers!
