WLAN vs. WIFI settings when installing a WiFi security camera

I bought a WiFi security camera to connect to my iPad and iPhone (both 13.3 iOS) and it says to link the camera via the WLAN setting. Well, it’s replaced with WIFI. I went to the WIFI setting which currently reflected my normal network name. The name of my security cam was listed below (among other network names around my neighborhood). I selected the cam and it changed my WiFi network to its name, not my personal WiFi network. The camera worked doing it that way, but then, I could no longer use WiFi when doing other things! Alternatively, when I change it back to my personal network, I can use my devices normally—except my security cam won’t connect while my network is in use! How do I make it so I can use my WiFi security cam AND my personal WiFi network?

Thank you for any insight!

Hi Laurie,

You are dealing with two different things / connections. Your personal WiFi network which appears to be working normally. When you are connected to your personal network then all is well. Your devices are ONLY going to connect to one of the two networks as you have found out. Its either your personal WiFI network or your camera's WLAN. From experience, I can tell you that your security camera's WLAN is only designed for setup whereby you would make the connection with your iPhone and your security camera and then teach the camera to use your personal WiFi network. This way all of the devices are on one working network which is your personal WiFi network.

How can this be done? Those instructions should come from your security camera manufacturer. There generally is an app associated with that camera that you download on your iPhone and then configure the security camera through that app. I recommend that you read your security camera's instructions thoroughly because the answer is definitely in that camera's user's manual.

Good Luck Laurie.
