I recently upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10, and I find that iTunes backup and restore are greyed out.

Hi All,

I'm trying to backup my iPhone 6SE to my PC running Win 10 (with the latest updates., 12.10.4.2 iTunes and iOS 13.3.1. ) The backup and restore are greyed out in iTunes. I reinstalled iTunes, checked and tried update the drivers for the Apple Mobile device USB. Done the reboot shuffle etc. I can access my pictures through file manager so I know that there is a connection. My device is identified on the iTunes summary screen although when it show the memory allocation at the bottom I don't see it broken out by Apps, Photo, etc. It just says Other and Free. When I try to sync I get can error about the connection. " The iPhone <iPhone name> cannot by sync'd because connection is lost" Any ideas? I hate to run w/o backups.

Thanks!!

iPhone SE, iOS 13

Hi All,

Thanks for the tip on Malwarebytes Ransomware. I tried exclude the directories suggested and a couple more, but I still had the issue. I disabled the Ransomware portion of Malwarebytes and was able to backup and sync. I re-enabled that portion of Malwarebytes and and I'm good. I just need to know I have a good backup. I really appreciate the quick response!!!!

Thank you! : )

If you are running the latest version of Malwarebytes (4.0.4) this would be the reason. There is a known issue in Malwarebytes causing lots of iTunes issues, and MWB will fix it in a future update.

Meanwhile try: In Malwarebytes Settings > Allow List > Add - select exclude from detection as ransomware only,,.
