iCloud

I recently purchased increased iCloud space. Now all my docs are saved in iCloud drive. I turned it off Friday, and did archive my stuff on my computer, but I do NOT want that! I want it to save on my computer, and only upload to iCloud docs if I ask it to. Is that possible? It took over an hour to link it back and download back to my computer (of course at a time I was on a tim crunch...ugh!). If I cancel iCloud storage, will I lose them all???? The archive was hard to find!!

If you don't use the Desktop and Documents option of iCloud Drive, you can move/save only those files that you want to sync into the iCloud Drive folder in Finder. You can add that folder to the Finder sidebar via Finder Preferences and/or you can access it via the Finder "Go" menu.

See the following for information about the Desktop and Documents option in iCloud Drive and how to turn that option off (be sure to read the fine print at the bottom of the section about turning it off): Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive - Apple Support

What if I downgrade my iCloud storage? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207594

Here is a link covering archiving and making copies: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204055

You say "If I cancel iCloud storage, will I lose them all????" I don't think so, but I can't find a written guarantee. For safety, I would backup everything in iCloud drive to folders not named Document or Desktop in my Home folder before downgrading my storage.
