Starting location in Apple Calendar App on my MacBook Air...

On my iPhone when a set a calendar event and add travel time, it asks for a starting location. I can choose either an address that is properly formatted from my Contacts or I can type in a location in the proper format. However, in my calendar App on my MacBook Air, running Catalina, the starting location ALWAYS defaults to Home. So, currently, to travel to a restaurant eight miles away, it takes 16 hours to drive. What I have had to do until now (now meaning an optimistic hope you'll give me an answer) was to enter the starting location on my iPhone after I have saved the entry on the MacBook Air or enter all my entries on the iPhone.

Any suggestions?

Joseph,

Thank you. I did a test. I entered a location for a "test" appointment at 10:00 AM and then added "test 2" three hours later asking for the travel time. And, just as you said, it took me from the location at "test" to the location of "test 2." This is all well and good if, in fact, I am going from "test" to "test 2" directly and not going home first. The iPhone Calendar is far superior by letting us choose any place in our contacts or by typing in a destination.

As I said above, when I am not home and I must enter an event, I truly do not want it defaulting to my home or work address and I certainly do not want it to default to my home or work address simply because "test" is the first event of the day.

Apple needs to make the Calendar App in OS X work the same way as it does in iOS. Otherwise, why tout the similarities of the various Apple OS's?

Again, thanks for your input, but Apple needs to step up to the plate and fix this.

Hello MattKauf,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. From my understanding, Calendar events on your Mac are choosing your home address instead of letting you choose a starting location. I'd like to share some information with you.

According to the Calendar User Guide, "Calendar finds your starting location by using the location in any events that are up to 3 hours before this event. If Calendar doesn’t find a location, it uses your work address or home address (from your card in the Contacts app), depending on the time of day." Learn more here:

Add location and travel time to events in Calendar on Mac

If needed, use these steps to update your home and work address:

Set up your My Card in Contacts on Mac

I hope this information is useful. Kind regards.
