Lock screen briefly inverts colors?

I have the iPhone 11 (just got it in January) and this problem started happening to me yesterday. It initially started happening every time I opened any of my apps, it would flash inverted colors and then go back to normal. I tried restarting my phone, which then made it only when I would raise my phone and the screen would light up in inverted colors and then go back to normal colors. Nothing seemed to work (turning all the settings on and off for inverted colors). After reading other comments I saw one about dark mode possibly having a glitch with the smart colors, so I switched to light mode and it solved the problem until I went back to dark mode, which is annoying because I preferred dark mode. So what fixed it for me was: switch to light mode, restart your phone, and then switch back to dark mode and it didn’t come back! Hopefully it stays normal :)

It happened to me and even I was confused initially. Now am able to consistently reproduce and get away from this issue.

Seems like a bug with enabling either "Invert/Smart Invert colors" even after you turn this off this will prevail. A normal hard reset would fix this issue and it won't surface back until you do the enabling of those switches again.

Press vol+ once and Vol- once and press and hold the power button until the phone restarts. I tried and tested this thrice and works like a charm. Hope this will be of help to someone.

Apple support walked me through this and all it took on the end was a hard reset. To do that you just hold the home and power button until you’re screen turns off. Hope this helps!

I was able to address it by turning Off the Accessibility Shortcut which had previously been set to Smart Invert - no restart necessary. I recently updated a 6S Plus to 13.4.1 and it had the issue.

I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max with iOS 13.3.1 installed. 

This is what happened to me- Classic Invert Colors was on and Auto-Brightness was off. 

I never had this problem- Lock screen briefly inverts colors when screen wakes. Until I reenabled Auto-Brightness for the first time. Classic Invert Colors was still on at this point.  Then I noticed this problem happening. 

I disabled Classic Invert Colors. Thinking this would fix it, no. (Did not do a hard reboot here)

Then I tried disabling Auto-Brightness and did a hard reboot. 

Haven’t seen it sense! I also tried to re-enable “Auto-Brightness” and “Classic Invert Colors” after the hard reboot. To see if it would start happening again. Nope hasn’t started again!!

It did this to me as well after I was messing with the invert settings and it didn’t fix until I shut down my phone but after that it stopped. I’m guessing it’s just a bug that came along with this update.

I had this same problem because I had turned on invert colors but I turned it off. I turn my phone completely off and turned it back on and it doesn’t show the inverted colors anymore. It would show it for a second and then it would go back to normal. Now it doesn’t

I had the same problem. I was able to fix it by turning off dark mode. No idea why that works though so still waiting for the next bug fix.

I think there’s a bug with the Smart Invert Colors and the Dark Mode. I noticed that if you turn on Smart Invert Colors and then off while you’re in Dark Mode, you get the bug that makes your lock screen briefly invert colors. There is another way to fix it which is just to use Light Mode instead.

Same here, resetting network settings worked. This problem occurred after I played around with the invert selections in the Accessibility section. Probably a bug that doesn't undo the effect on unlock after switching from invert to regular.

There is some degree of coding conflict with iOS, and the “dark mode” option in settings. If you put your iPhone in “light mode”, it should resolve the issue when using smart invert. May require a reboot. By no means is this a fix, but it works. Time and time again Apple ignores little nuance issues with iOS. They rather focus on bringing a new iOS to market, to keep iPhone users interested in the brand. This screen bug has been an issue since dark mode first became an option in iOS. Ignored for quite some time.

Hello everyone I had the same problem with my iPhone XR all I had to do was restart my phone ( hold both volume buttons and off button at the same time then slide the button that’s says “ slide to power off”) proceed to turn your phoen back on and the problem should be fixed :) hope this helps

Try turning Classic Invert Colors ON and OFF again. It works for me. Hope it works for you too
