apple tv on MacBook won't allow restrictions to be turned off

I rented a movie from iTunes, but when I went to try to watch it on the Apple TV app, it says it's restricted on this computer. I click restrictions to edit this, but there are no restrictions set. The section where it says to select the movie rating is greyed out. It doesn't ask for a passcode, doesn't allow me to click or select anything. Any suggestions? Would like to not have wasted my money on a movie my computer won't allow me to watch.
