Can you make an Apple Card payment without using iPhone Wallet?

Can I use my bank's Bill Pay mechanism to send a payment for an Apple Card, or do I have to use the iPhone Wallet and enter my bank account numbers, increasing my fraud exposure?

I know there is a way to contact an Apple Card specialist on a phone and make a payment, like if you lose your iPhone. That's not what I am asking. I'd just prefer to use my bank's Bill Pay, if that was possible. Seems like Apple wants to lock you into the iPhone and Wallet? Unlike other credit cards, no standard website to view your account, only through Wallet, seems like.

Thanks for any insight.

I do not work for Apple. I volunteer my time to answer questions about Apple technical issues. Who are you to decide what answers are helpful and not helpful? Which one of my answers do you feel is not appropriate? I fully answered the original questions asked (my first answer) and I do not answer "what if " questions because you can "what if"all day long and get no where. Calling Goldman Sachs will get them even more information than I can provide here (my second answer). If you use the search bar. Anyone with access to the internet can go to Apple.com>select iPhone>select Apple Card>tap how it works and learn a lot of things. They can also do a search the website (Save time by searching the website first - Apple Community) or go to this page where I consolidated all of the Apple Card information - Steps to take for applying to Apple Card - Apple Community

Some personal advice - you need to be nice to people you do not know instead if what you are doing now.

I too called the number for Goldman-Sachs. The person there was very helpful and knowledgeable. I felt that the person extended themselves very much for me to help resolve my issues.

That being said the direction provided by Apple seems flawed. Here are the instructions on how to get into the account on your iPhone:

  1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and tap Apple Card.
  2. Then tap the more button .
  3. Tap Card Information.
  4. Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode.

The first item there is the issue. When I go to my Wallet there are 3 things showing regarding the Apple Card:

The word Wallet on top left

A white plus sign in a black circle on the top right

An Apple logo with Pay Cash in a black band about 1/2 inch tall under both of the above items

Then there is an image of presumably an Apple Card

That is it. There is no black circle with the 3 white dots.

Tapping the card image once does nothing at all, Tapping the card image twice fast, nothing, trying to scroll up while tapping Nothing. The kind person at Sachs had no idea what was going wrong.

So I explored. I tapped twice rapidly and tried to scroll up at the same time NO JOY.

I accidentally tapped one more time and darned if the account information didn't come up. So I quit out of the app, and reentered into the Wallet. I experimented with different tap sequences and found the magic tap dance sequence required for entry.

It is a double tap with a fairly short delay between taps but not just tap tap, more like tap (count to 1) tap. Now I can open the Card info every time.

Not knowing what to expect, and not using my iPhone as an extension of myself as so many of us do, I had to stumble on this process. It's not in the instructions. This is a small thing except when you really aren't sure of how to progress.

Are you saying that the account information never leaves the user's device? I read one thread that the user claimed the device would make payments without the user initiating it. No way to really verify what actually happened.

Also, if someone gets possession of my phone and accesses the contents before I can get the phone locked, I would think that having the account info on the phone would make it easier for someone to do harm than if the account info was not on it, theoretically. Would you agree and if not, why not?

I appreciate your comments.

I don't know if you are an Apple Employee or just some individual off the street, but this kind of an answer is just not helpful.

If this is the first time you have used this service, a person may not have a clue as to just what the heck to do. I sure don't. I'm not even sure how I got to here rather than an answer or direction how to get to the information needed to clarify my growing confusion.

Apple has this relatively new service that so far is not demonstrating how easy it is to use. How do you see your bills? How do you see your balance? How do you use something other than a darn phone to work with the system? Where do I go to review my statements? If I failed to set up a payment when first asked, how do I get to go through the system again to resolve and or pay any balance that is currently due?

So far I am not very happy with the Apple Card. But that certainly doesn't mean that I don't want to become familiar with the process and pay my account timely.

No reason to cancel the card , I was just wanting to understand better how the security works. I did call Goldman-Sacs though, to ask the same questions and I will pass on what I found in case others can benefit.

They do have a mechanism to use your bank's Bill Pay system, or to just send a check if you want to make a payment on your AppleCard. So you are not limited to paying by iPhone only, according to their support staff. You need your card account number from the Wallet, then you need the mailing address to send the payment to which they provided. It just takes longer to process than does the Wallet payment method.

Second, when you enter your bank account info into the Wallet to make a payment that account number is retrieved and stored by Goldman Sacs for use in future payments.
