LG external Blu-ray burner does not show up on my iMac (2019) macOS Catalina

Has anyone had this problem? Before I upgraded to Catalina from Mojave, the blu-ray burner showed up on the desktop and the sidebar. It also does not show up in Disk Utility. Under Finder, the boxes to show the CD, DVD drives is checked. I brought the iMac to the Apple store and they said the Blu-ray drive connector was defective, but on my older Mac Pro using Mojave, it shows up fine, so there is nothing

wrong with the connection cable. Also, it used to work fine before I upgraded to Catalina.

Thank you.

Do you need software to use the drive? If so then it's possible the software that needs to be updated.

Is the drive recognized in the System Information when connected to your MBP and turned on?

Is it recognized by Disk Utility if it's plugged in with a CD or DVD disc in it?

If it is then it's probably the software than needs updating.

Was this a 2019 iMac that originally shipped with Mojave, and was upgraded to Catalina. If true, did the blu-ray burner work with Mojave?

There may be nothing wrong with your connection cable to the older Mac Pro, but that does not guarantee that the iMac's USB-3 ports, your USB cable from the blu-ray burner, or USB implementation in Catalina are as tolerant. This is a powered blu-ray burner, right, and LG does not offer firmware updates for it?

When you put a DVD or blu-ray disk in the LG burner, does it still fail to mount on the Desktop or appear in Disk Utility?

Yes, the iMac came with Mojave and it was upgraded to Catalina, but it did work with Mojave. I ordered a new USBa-b 3.0 cable to replace the one that came with the new LG Blu-ray rewriter from Amazon and it will be here late tomorrow afternoon. Yes, it is a powered Blu-ray burner and yes, LG informed me that there is no firmware update for it. As they explained, it is plug and play.

Yes to your last question.

I purchased an LG Blu-ray burner from Best Buy with the condition that I could return it for any reason (especially if it didn't work with Catalina) and tried it out. At first, nothing appeared on the desktop or the sidebar so I was quite disappointed. However, once I placed a DVD in burner, the DVD icon showed up in both places. Even with a DVD in the other burner, nothing would show up. Now I know that the original Blu-ray player is defective so I am in the process of exchanging it with macsales.com.

Thank you all for your input! I really appreciated it.
