LG external Blu-ray burner does not show up on my iMac (2019) macOS Catalina

Has anyone had this problem? Before I upgraded to Catalina from Mojave, the blu-ray burner showed up on the desktop and the sidebar. It also does not show up in Disk Utility. Under Finder, the boxes to show the CD, DVD drives is checked. I brought the iMac to the Apple store and they said the Blu-ray drive connector was defective, but on my older Mac Pro using Mojave, it shows up fine, so there is nothing

wrong with the connection cable. Also, it used to work fine before I upgraded to Catalina.

Reset the iMac’s SMC and NVRAM.

If that doesn’t help, then whatever drivers were supporting the drive, are no longer compatible in Catalina.

Before you purchase another optical drive test the one you have on another Mac running Catalina.

Do you have an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider near you? Take in there an have them check it out.

You did have a disc, empty or burned, in the drive when you tried to see it, right? Neither the Finder nor Disk Utility will see the drive without a disc in it.

Yes, that is correct. Unless you place a DVD or Blu-ray disc into the drive, nothing will be visible on your desktop or in the finder. Once you insert a disc, both appear.

I had the same problem with an old Mac Pro. It had and internal Blu-ray drive that worked fine until I upgraded to the newer OS. Yes, you need to purchase a new Blu-ray drive.

With the Blu-ray drive that I purchased from Mac Sales, I did not need any software to run.
