My wife iPad was stolen, but then she got an email saying it was found. How can we retrieve it

If you fell for the “it was found” scam and clicked on any links provided with the message and logged into the “Apple” portal page provided, you aren’t going to ever get that iPad back, and you may well have just lost control of the associated Apple ID. Change your Apple ID password right now.
