Macbook Pro 16 inch speaker pulsating noise?

Hi everyone,

I purchased a MacBook Pro 16 inch back in December 2019 and - like most people- got issues with my speakers (popping, crackling, all that jazz).

BUT, there is also ANOTHER ISSUE that NO ONE seems to talk about and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

So I updated my Macbook to now macOS Catalina 10.15.3 and no more popping and crackling, great but there is that pulsating sound/distortion coming from the speakers (since I purchased it but I was told by Apple that I had to wait for the update to come since it was software related).

it's a weird echo sound coming from the speakers when I watch videos (online or downloaded), when I use Logic Pro/Dorico/Sibelius/Garage Band/Itunes/etc. It comes on and off randomly as well.

Does anyone else has that problem? As a musician is very frustrating, I don't know what to do.

Thank You

MacBook Pro 16", macOS 10.15

Thanks for the advice guys. I was just happy to get it working. I've now changed the Project settings to 48khz in Logic by going to File>Projects Settings>Audio

and changed the system settings by searching "Audio Midi Setup" in spotlight and choosing Window>show audio devices to bring up the settings for the speakers and have changed them to 48khz too.

The lowest I can get the buffer in Logic, without it going full "Rice Krispies" - snap crackle and pop on me is 64 though. I can confirm that the galloping sound has gone for me with those settings too. I'd be interested if anyone has got it down to 32 although I suspect at that level of latency it's more accurate than my actual playing :-)

Do you think if I de-installed Garageband it would disappear?

You're on the other side of the divide - as in, you cannot return yours anymore - so I hear

your logic from that place. I am still within warranty (on #3) and am wondering, since I use

such a simple program if it might be better to digress in laptop model or go PC.

There is a guy named Patrick, the Garageband Guide, and he says to avoid Catalina at all costs.

Something about 64 bit screwing things up and making DAWs unstable and buggy.

I did install Logic with the first computer and the speakers had issue there as well. Probably

after I used G-band.

Thanks for your message and explanation. It helped.

Spoke with Apple support. We collected more diagnostic information. I haven't convinced them to attempt a reproduction on their side, yet, which is a bit disappointing. But we did capture new diagnostic information, and I have another appointment to follow up with them next week.

I'm going to continue pushing on this with my support engineer, and continue pushing on them to reproduce it themselves. The key to getting a fix is an Apple engineer, reproducing the issue for themselves. Then they can test and measure the issue themselves.

I tried diligently to reproduce the issue before installing a DAW, and I couldn't get it to happen. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I still think at least installing a DAW is an important step.

MobileComposer, from whom did you hear this was a known issue that Apple was working on? I ask because my support rep, that I've been working with for a few weeks now, was not aware of any known issues. It might be useful to consolidate the case if there are multiple cases with the same issue. If you have a case number or anything that would be helpful.

I'm talking to my support rep this weekend and will give an update after the call.

Hi! I THINK YOU FOUND THE SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM.... I tried your settings in Logic as well and it fixed it system wide.... I don't know why it works either but wow, my life is changed now lol.

I still hope Apple will address this issue?...

I never had the error messages you got from Logic but your settings still fixed the issue....

Thank you!

****, aizarged just broke the theory then.

But THAT is still weird, how a software related problem can happen on like 1/2 of the computers or maybe more...

The only thing different about Apple stores' computers is that you don't put your fingerprint on them and set them up.

The problem is indeed on Garage Band and Logic Pro... Or any software like Final Cut... Yes it's been tested on both garage band and Logic Pro at the Store.

It could be cool that one of you try and see a bunch of computer at another Apple Store. Because if we can find that 100% of them work properly...

Man, with that info we'd kill them.

"she said that there’s no record of this issue on their side"

Are you kidding me????

I can point them to a thread on gearslutz that began on 1 Dec 2019 about the same issue.

Not to mention threads here!

I bet they don't give me a new machine in the next 12 months and I only just got it on 30 June 2020 and had the issues from day one.

It's the type of issue that needs a class action.
