My iPhone was saying the text senders name and “iMessage” when getting a text. Now it just says “notification” when getting a text. How do I make it show the persons name ONLY without a preview of the message?

This is what I get with those settings. I don’t want it to show a preview all all. Whether the phone is unlocked or locked. Just the persons name.

Understood. Choose Show Previews to Never as shown in the image below-
Now, on the Lock Screen (when your iPhone is still locked) you will just see a message notification. When you unlock it with Face ID then the notification will expand and just show the name of the sender and no preview. Hope this works out.

So I guess there’s no way it will say the name without having to unlock it with Face ID? That’s a bummer. I really appreciate the help
Go to Settings-->>Notifications-->>Messages-->>Show Previews and the select When Unlocked.
This will only show the person's names when the screen has been locked.

That is exactly what that procedure will accomplish. What you are doing is telling the iPhone to Show Previews ONLY when the iPhone is Unlocked. In other words, when the iPhone is Locked then do not show previews and ONLY show the person's name.

Weston, once that LOCK (Face ID Lock on Lock Screen) unlocks, do not flip up to get to the home screen and those text notifications will expand and show the NAME only. After that you can either get to the home screen or re-lock the iPhone with the side button.
