Image capture not recognizing scanner

I have a new scanner, a Brother DS 620. Brother admits that they are working on software to support Catalina 10.15.3, which is what I'm running on a Mac Pro. However, as an interim fix, they are instructing customers to use Image Capture. My Image Capture does not list the device. Is there a patch available to rectify this?

If you already have this Brother scanner driver (as shown) for the DS-620, and have Reset the Print System to make the new driver visible to the operating system, and Image Capture still borks, then you are at the mercy of Brother's updated driver release schedule.

Although VueScan shows support for over 700 Brother scanners, the DS-620 is not yet shown as a supported scanner. There presently is no Apple AirPrint support for this device either.

If you reboot your Mac, does Image Capture suddenly get with the program and recognize this scanner?

Hi Viking! Thanks for taking time to respond. I've tried about everything, including clearing the print system and installing Vuescan. Nothing works and Brother admitted they are working on the driver and will contact me when it arrives. The scanner isn't even listed in Image Capture. I'm going to wait a month or so (I have till March 15th to return it) and if they can't get this thing flying by then it's off to another manufacturers product. Maybe VueScan can reverse engineer a driver by then also.

Thanks! I appreciate it!

Some time ago I had a similar problem after an OS upgrade. Initially Vue Scan also did not work after the upgrade, although it had worked before. I notified them and about 3 weeks later they had a fix. That tells me that they do keep working on their app to make it work with as many scanners as possible. So, I would also keep checking their web site for an update in addition to the Brother web site. Good luck.

When I mentioned in my previous post that VueScan does not support the DS-620, it was because I checked all of the currently supported Brother scanner models on the VueScan site beforehand. Contact VueScan and ask them what timeframe you might expect support for the DS-620. If it is beyond March 15th, and Brother cannot provide assurance that they will have their software working by that time, then why wait on a return?

I would recommend that any replacement scanner decision should be preceded by checking the VueScan supported scannners, so you do not have to relive this Brother experience. For any Vuescan supported scanner page, scroll all the way to the bottom of it, and see if it is supported on macOS without any vendor software or drivers. That is critical.
