Editing text in Pages

I created a document to use in reporting my business income to my accountant a few years ago with Pages. In what I think is a text box there is some date text I need to change. But I can't seem to select either the text box itself or the text within it. I know I've been able to do this in the past because I have copies of previous copies have been modified to reflect that year's date. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? In the screen shot of the document below under Operating Expenses I am trying to add a 9 to the 201

Thanks!

Possibly, but not the first thing that comes to mind.

Is there more than one page to this document?

Another thing to check is whether the Section C block is a Section Master part.

Go to the Arrange menu, place the pointer on Section Masters to open a sub menu, then choose Make Master Objects selectable.

Then click on the Schedule C text. Does this action Select the text box?

If so, you should then be able to edit the contants of the box.

Barry

Click on the table to select it and deselect anything that may be currently selected.

Click on the Schedule C text.

Does this make a box outline appear, containing the text?

If so, what are the markers at the corners of the box?

x - the box is locked. Go Arrange (menu) > unlock

small square: The contents of the box are editable

Click again on the text, this time immediately after 201

Does the insertion point appear?

yes: with the insertion point immediately following 201, type 9

no:  report the result in your reply.

Barry,

If I click on the table that contains actual data...Advertising & Printing, Vehicle Business Mileage, etc it makes everything appear as you state and allows me to place the insertion point and enter text and or numbers. When I click on the area where Schedule C Operating Expenses is all that appears is the little blue characters denoting hard returns and I am unable to place an insertion point or enter text. A thought occurred to me after I first posted this, the last time I used this worksheet was in April of last year when preparing my taxes. At the time I was using an older iMac running OS 10.6 that was equipped with an older version of Pages. At that time I was able to enter date such as that years date in the Schedule C section. Could it be that opening the file with a newer version of Pages is causing this problem?

Thanks

Barry,

Thank you so much you've solved my problem! I followed you advice, went to the Arrange menu, clicked on Make Master Objects Selectable and Presto problem solved!

I must say that while I have been a staunch Apple user for many years I find a good deal of their software overly complex and difficult to use! Half a dozen times I've forced my self to sit down and try to "learn" Pages and half a dozen times I've wound up wasting a lot of time with not much gained. Just too many complicated features for a person trying to run two business to ever find time to master!

Thank goodness for folks like you! I'll tell Tim Cook to send you a check!

Thanks!
