AirPods connecting to MacBook Pro but not playing sound

My AirPods can connect to my MacBook Pro, and they make the connected sound, but it won't play sound when I play anything on any browser or on Spotify, nothing. It registers that it's connected and even registers input sound in the settings when I say things. I can connect it to my iPhone and it plays sound no problem.n I've disconnected them I've done the "forget device" and reconnected them completely and it still doesn't;t play sound. Wondering if there's a fix to this?
