I keep trying to delete IOS files(back ups)

Every time I choose delete, it prompts me to enter my password to confirm the deletion of these very old and space consuming backups. When I choose delete, the files still just sit there and do nothing. I looked up how to delete them and no one seemed to have this issue. How can free up the 22gb this is stupidly taking from my macbook?

Boot into safe mode.

Mind you once you delete those backups, they are gone.

So be sure you don't need any old voicemail, messages, texts or photos that might be stored in those backups.

Safe mode is the shift key on startup on a Mac.
