Lightning to HDMI dongle Fast Charging

Hi. Good day. I recently bought a lightning to hdmi dongle for my iPad Pro 2nd generation. However I noticed that the battery percentage is dropping while I’m mirroring my screen to my TV. I’m using a apple 30w power adapter so I think that my battery percentage should be increasing instead of decreasing.

Does the Apple dongle’s support fast charging capabilities of my ipad? (Lighting to USB and lightning to HDMI) thank you

Hey I bought a romoss powerbank bank that can determine the voltage and ampere while charging.

Device: iPad Pro gen 2

Power Source: romoss powerbank 12W (5V; 2.4amp)

Using directly the lightning cord, the powerbank was able to deliver almost 12W (5.2V; 2.3amp)

However if I charge with the Hdmi dongle, i was only able to charge 2W (5.1V; 0.4amp)

Video of the test is in the link:

So, is my Hdmi dongle defective?

My comments as to expected performance are confined to official Apple devices only - and should not be interpreted otherwise.

You should be approaching the manufacturer of the third-party device/dongle/power-supply for comment as to performance of their product with your iPad - and for any support needs you may have. We really cannot constructively comment on whether your device(s) is/are defective - or even its fitness for purpose - where non Apple components are involved.

Genuine Apple accessories, or those specifically certified for iPad (carrying the official “Made for iPad” certification label) can be be expected to perform adequately with your iPad. There are some very good reputable t-p manufacturers who produce great accessories and aftermarket devices. However, should you choose to purchase and use “uncertified” devices, you take a chance on compatibility and technical performance.

Some buyers choose to spend a tidy sum on their Apple device - and then choose cheap aftermarket accessories. When something goes awry, they then question why the accessory provides substandard performance - or in extremis, complain of damage to their expensive Apple device.

Is this a risk worth taking? Only you can decide.

Hi. 12w is not fast charging in Ipad. Also, I’m talking about the 12w Charger not power delivery (PD). Lastly, 2W Charging speed is incredibly slow

Lotus made it very clear that PD is not supported by the dongle. However Lotus also made it very clear that the dongle can support 12W (5V; 2.4amps) of charging. My last reply is asking if my dongle has factory damage because it is not supporting 12W changing instead it is only charging at a measly 2W.

For Power Delivery (PD) Fast Charging to work, all components in the charging chain (charger, cable, your device - and anything else such as adapters) must all support PD. If any component does not support the PD handshake that negotiates the charging voltage and current, the entire system will fall-back to standard USB charging at 5V/12W.

PD is a multi-voltage technology; standard USB power connections operate at 5V.

I have not been able to locate any published specification for the Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter that confirms support for PD. Without definitive support for PD within it specifications, it would be reasonable to assume that the adapter does not support it.
