Dimmed Screen (White point reduced) when turning on display after screensaver

Hello community!

Recently I bought new Macbook pro 16 inch with macOS Catalina installed.

After few days of usage I realized that when mac goes to screensaver and turn off the display completely then after turning on the display back and logging into system, the screen is considerably darker and it looks like when you reduce the white point on the iPhone. It does look really similar.

I also notices that this happens only in NIGHT SHIFT mode turned on when on the screen is app open with dark interface.

To bring the normal brightness back after logging into the system, I need to set the brightness level to the max.

Is there any solution for this to turn this behaviour off?

I will be happy for any response!

MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019

2.3 GHz 8-core processor intel Core i9

64 GB RAM

2TB SSD

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M, 8GB of GDDR6 memory

MacBook Pro 16", macOS 10.15

Hey Hollycene,

I see that you're having trouble with your MacBook Pro screen dimming, and you have to adjust the brightness back to maximum. I'll be happy to help out.

When you wake up the Mac after the display is asleep, if you wait a little bit does the screen eventually go back to regular brightness? Take a look at this resource for some more information about this: If your Mac display is slow to reach full brightness - Apple Support. If your Mac has an ambient light sensor, then you may want to consider turning off the automatic adjustment of the display to see if that keeps it at the level you prefer more consistently. You can do this by clicking the Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then click Display. Select "Automatically adjust brightness."
