New folders and files set to read only

We're using Mac Server on MAC OS 10.7.5. When a user creates files/folders on server volume all other users permissions are set to Read Only and have to be manually changed to Read/Write.

How can new files/folders be set to Read/Write for all users when file is created?

Limiting permissions on files and folders I have a separate user on my Macintosh that contains files I would like to keep private. I don't want these files to be accessible from the main user. By default, all files and folders on a Mac provide Read Only access to Staff (which is the group that contains everyone) and Read Only access to Everyone (which, I guess, is all users). The owner of the file/directory has read/write access. I believe the correct thing for me to do is to remove the Staff and Everyone permissions for the files and folders in that separate user. That way they won't turn up in searches and won't be viewable from the main user account. Will making this change break anything? Are there unforeseen consequences I should be aware of? Also, is it possible to specify that new files and folders not be given permission that all Read Only access by Staff and Everyone? Thanks.

can’t move or copy a file or folder to my Macintosh HD I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to the latest version of Catalina. Previous to this upgrade I had several folders on the Macintsoh HD (same level as System, Applications...). But after this upgrade, can not move my folders back (or create a new folder) to this location. Admin is only Read Only (just like my iMac) which is still on Mojave and I can move and create folders at this level. Using the Admin account, I can not change the permissions for admin to Read & Write. What happened/changed? How can I change this back to allow folders to be created there at this level? thanks

Hello,

File permissions can be set in System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing. On the user you wish to have full read/write permission you would add that user and specify those permissions. For everyone else you would specify read only permissions.
