Mac update stoped my security

Hi all I am new on here so go easy on me.

I have a problem with an update for my late 2009 desktop mac the latest update 10.13.6 has caused my Kaspersky total security to become unreachable and will not open.I have contacted Kaspersky and they are looking into it but I noticed it was not working when at the same time I downloaded the latest patch from apple.

The small shied beside the search bar in safari is grey and that is where it says its unreachable and if I go to open it directly it comes up with-Kaspersky anti-virus for Mac quit unexpectedly.

Has anyone else had these problems or do you know of a work around for this

I thought of using an old back up but my storage device has failed recently and I have not got one atm.

Uninstall Kaspersky:

Such software is unnecessary on a Mac, and it just gets in the way. What you explain is a pure example of how such software can just get in the way on a Mac.

Use the Uninstaller:

Just dragging-and-dropping the icon to the Trash, temporary file (i.e. caches) will be laid aside on your Mac.

Start Here: How to uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security. Select the version number, and download the uninstaller.

Uninstall Kaspersky as per the developer's instructions. No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system. Your Mac has all the built-in protection you need.

Well you have had three people reply to your post all saying that you should uninstall Kaspersky.

So you have had Kaspersky for ten years, what a waste of money and just think how much better

your mac would have been without it.

If you are listening to people that tell you any mac can get infected, then you are listening to the wrong people.

Well the first thing you need to know is that macs do not need any kind of Anti-Virus or extra security installed, and Kaspersky is

one of the worst. Uninstall Kaspersky using the developers instructions. There are no viruses that attack the mac, if you want to keep on top of adware/ malware download and install https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/ there is a free version. Macs do not need cleaning or optimisation software either so if you have any of them installed uninstall them according to the developers instructions.

Macs look after themselves pretty well, so there is no need for third party intervention.

Thank you for your reply it was spot on to uninstall and reinstall. Kaspersky were very helpful in providing a link to sort the problem out as I contacted them as well. and they replied and sorted it in less that 24hrs.

I would just like to point out that Kaspersky has never given my Mac any problems in the 10 years I have had it and it has always been good to me.I was always told that any Mac can get infected but its just unlikely to do so (peace of mind I guess for me ) to have a bit more protection.

The issue was with an Apple update it stopped Kaspersky from working.

Ok fine I mistook the wording sorry. but I do find it a bit weird of the open hostility towards Kaspersky and the denial that Mac computers can't get a virus as I was told they could by apple themselves and I have had this confirmed by other people who have had a virus or had their computers compromised. Mac computers need other security but I have never had any problems with it or been slowed down by it or any other issues.

if you type in (Can a Mac computer get a virus ) the first thing is says is YES YES YES so why should I believe any of you that said Macs can't get infected. so it docent matter how many people have told me on this thread to get rid of Kaspersky or that Macs can't get a virus compared to the information out there you are naive and wrong.

all I had was a small problem but you all have blown it out of proportion and not taken my issue seriously.you all should respect my decision to have it or not and dealt with the original problem of how to get round the issue of it not responding.

if all you are going to do is bash me for having Kaspersky then i am glad I will never be looking for help on here again

I'm sorry ypu feel everyone is "bashing" you, we're just giving you our best advice. The reason we say there are no viruses is because technicaly there are none. There are other forms of malware you can download if you're not careful but these would be adware. This can only happen by being tricked into it by an application you do want but the download is infected. This won't happen if you stick to downloads from the AppStore and trusted developers.

If you do inadvertently download this type of malware, then Malwarebytes can be used to remove it. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac. It’s the only one recommended by Apple tech support folks.

You can't get an actual virus on a Mac because they don't exist. Yes, there are lots of numbskull "experts" on the Internet who love to call Mac malware viruses for one reason, and one reason only - clickbait.

Viruses are malware that self replicate from one line of site drive to another, or infect other apps on the same computer. These do not exist. Virtually all Mac malware are Trojans. That's software the user must install in some way. It can't get on your computer by itself.

All Mac AV software is 100% useless. There are no viruses to detect, and none of them will even attempt to stop you from installing a Trojan. The only thing AV software excels at is taking your money and bogging down your computer.
