The DHCP server could maybe be not assigning an IP address. Try power cycling your DHCP server (which is very VERY often your home router).


Sometimes the DHCP server can exhaust its IP address range if the reservation time is too long on the DHCP server. Again, power cycling your DHCP server (which is often your home router).


On rare occasions a DHCP server will respond well if you give the network interface a DHCP Client ID

System Preferences -> Network -> select the network interface on the left -> Advanced -> TCP/IP -> DHCP Client ID


On the router side, many routers offer IP address reservations where they always give a connecting device the same IP address based on things like the devices MAC address (each Thunderbolt Ethernet device would have its own MAC address). Some routers will use things like the DHCP Client ID, some have the ability to use the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Computer name.
