Ipad misbehaving...

I have an ipad air 3rd gen running on 13.3.1..lately I’m finding that certain letters on the keypad will not work and in certain apps, I sometimes can’t make the app work properly..e.g in a word game app where I slide a letter tile onto a square, it doesn’t do what I want..it’s bizarre..if I'm trying to do one thing like type a word, the ipad seems to make its own mind up and do something else..it’s as if it’s working by itself without my input. The screen often freezes as well when using safari.

The only way I can get it to work is press the top and home button to reset but this only lasts a short while and it happens again. Re the keypad, it’s always the same letters...f, v and sometimes c..any ideas anyone. Conversely, the keypad is working perfectly typing this now.

Before getting too bogged down, start by force-restarting your iPad - as this often resolves isolated issues:

  • Models with the Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • Other models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

This may not fully resolve the problem, but is the place to start.

We obviously cannot offer constructive comment upon the stability and functionality of third-party Apps, but Safari should be stable. Your iPad Air3 is a recent model with adequate system resources, so performance should be en-par with other “current” models of iPad.

It is perhaps worth noting that Safari relies upon the performance of your internet connection - and that of the servers to which you connect. If typing input to a web-form (such as this community forum), any text that you “type” will only appear on your screen when it has been received and processed by the destination service. As such, any pauses or stutters may be related to either the internet connection or the webserver.

All the described Apps or websites are using webforms - as such performance will reflect that of the web service.

Consider that in the current global conditions, commercial web services may be much busier than usual with increased load - and may therefore be suffering from capacity issues. I too have had the odd issue today with input “pausing” when interacting with this website, although I must stress that I have only experienced sporadic issues.
