Using late 2013 iMac 27'' as external monitor for Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon over Thunderbolt?
Will it be possible to use my late 2013 iMac 27'' as external monitor for my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptop if I connect the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port on the laptop to the Thunderbolt 2 port on the iMac with a Thunderbolt 3 cable and a Thunderbolt 3 female / Thunderbolt 2 male adapter?
For obvious reasons, I've recently started working form home and was thinking whether it could be possible to use my iMac 27'' as an external monitor for my work laptop. Various posts on the internet suggest that this might be possible. I already tried to connect the laptop to the iMac with a HDMI cable and a HDMI female / Mini DP adapter, but this did not work. Based on this article, I undestand that the source also has to be a Thunderbolt source, thus the HDMI out with conversion to Mini DP didn't work.
Now to my understanding, this might work if I use the USB-C port on the laptop, which to my undestanding also works as a Thunderbolt 3 source AND use a Thunderbolt cable and a Thunderbolt 3 female to Thunderbolt 2 male adapter to connect to the iMac.
However, before purchasing the rather pricey cable and adapter, it would be nice with some sort of confirmation that this will indeed work in case somebody has successfully tried out this setup already.
