Wechat and other apps which has screenshot functionality not working after upgrade the system from macOS High Sierra to macOS Catalina.

When using Wechat App to take a screenshot, it pops up a hint asking me to go to "System Preferences" to Allow Screenshots, but the App does not show up under "Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> Screen Recording" at all. Why?

Hi SnickZ,

I've found the solution by Googling days and nights. There's only one person who mentioned the bug, however the post is more than 1 year ago.

It's a bug with the database /Library/Application\ Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db, normal users are not able to modify it when applying for privileges.

Here's the original link for whom may have encountered the same pain in the neck.

https://community.folivora.ai/t/bug-cant-add-btt-to-mojave-privacy-security-settings/6688/2

Solution:

1.) Disable SIP (system integrity protection). Which is a complicated process unfortunately (see https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/208481 226 ). Afterwards restart & boot back into normal macOS

2.) Delete/rename the tcc.db file (e.g. using this command: sudo mv /Library/Application\ Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db /Library/Application\ Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC_old_backup.db )

3.) Boot into Recovery Mode Again

4.) Enable system integrity protection again (command: csrutil enable )

5.) Reboot the Mac

Hi there, LeoTchang.

I see that you're trying to use the Screen Recording feature in WeChat, but the app doesn't appear under the Security & Privacy > Screen Recording to allow it. I'm glad to help with this.

Control access to your camera on Mac -- See if you've given access for the camera on your Mac first, then see if it appears in Screen Recording.

If you need additional assistance, I suggest following the steps in this support resource: If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac and to contact the Developer of this third-party app if needed: How to contact an app developer

Let me know how that goes, and take care!

Hi SnickZ,

Thanks for your kind reply!

As suggested, I went to the Camera access list in which WeChat App is included in, but the access list for Screen Recording is still empty. By the way, there's no problem with using WeChat for video chat.

I don't think the issue is with the third-party app, but macOS Catalina itself, because even the built-in app QuickTime Player won't show in the Screen Recording list when using it for "New Screen Recording".

WeChat is not alone, any other apps which require access to "Screen Recording"

Looking forward to your help, very much appreciated!

Regards,

Leo
